Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN ARE THE AUDITIONS?

Auditions are held throughout the academic year starting in October.  Due to the limited number of places available, you may be offered a reserve place should all places have been filled on previous audition dates.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for talent, potential and ‘trainability’.  Your natural ability, your fit with what and how we teach, your growth and potential are key factors in our admissions process.  Your physical range, strength, and flexibility will be assessed along with your capability to undertake intensive training.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS?

Five A-C (or equivalent) grades at GCSE. If students do not attain this level in Maths or English, they will be required to attend additional classes in these subjects whilst at BDC.

IS THERE FUNDING AVAILABLE?

Yes, through our working partnership with Midsomer Norton Sixth Form, all students aged 16 to 19 years, studying the BTEC Extended Diploma are entitled to academic funding, which will be deducted from course fees.

It is our belief that training should be accessible to all students and we are pleased to be able to offer additional talent scholarships. Funding is determined following the audition process and awarded to students that show exceptional talent and potential.

WHAT WILL I BE ASKED TO DO?

We offer all candidates a private audition.  This gives us the opportunity to really get to know the candidate and so are better placed to make a more informed decision about their suitability for the course than has previously been the case with group auditions.

Candidates should prepare two of the following:

- A solo dance – any genre, approximately 1.5mins

- A solo song – 16 bars

- A monologue – approximately 1.5mins

This is your opportunity to show yourself at your best.  Please pick two pieces that fully represent you and your aspirations as a performer. This is your opportunity to really shine, showing us that you have the talent, aptitude and physical ability to become a professional performer.

This will be followed by a short interview through which we would like to learn more about you. We’re interested to hear how you’ve pursued your passion for the performing arts to date and what coming to BDC would mean to you.
